Alexia 48

Posted by Daniel Picard (Ottawa, Canada) on 12 January 2009 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

This was taken yesterday at the hospital where we've been living since last week and will probably be there for at least another, so I won't be doing much shooting and blogging until we're all back home.

As for Alexia, she's doing amazingly better (as you can see from the happy "Hi Daddy" hand signal she's giving me) - all we're waiting for now is her little body to start accepting more real food/formula/added supplements so we can slowly get rid of that bag of fluid and then we can all leave.

Update: I won't go into too many details since this is not a medical blog, but after many tests, they found that our girl has Cystinosis, a very rare genetic disease that affects the acid level in her body. We're back home now and she's doing better than ever, but we do have to give her a few different medications for a total of 16 times a day, mostly to keep her salt levels normal since her kidneys have already been hurt by this.

Thanks for all the kind comments over the past few weeks while we were going through a pretty hard time :)
